WUA Section-A-Long: Week #14

A little more love in the world

As the crazy times continue, it is nice to know that there is still love in the world. In honor of that, this week's blog post is gonna be love inspired.

As some of you might know, I got engaged last weekend! (Which is why we ended up skipping a week of the section-a-long...) The proposal was amazingly week and definitely one to remember. We have been together for almost 4 years, and I am so happy to finally be starting this next chapter in our love story.

Make sure you have checked out the original section-a-long post, if you haven't already for the list of supplies you will need, and if you missed any of them, the other patterns are all linked at the bottom of that post!

Learning new things (and a return to an old favorite)

While home, I decided to give the Lemon Block pattern from Twinkie Chan a try. I haven't done much crochet colorwork, but I was excited to learn a new technique. Luckily I had the perfect scrap yarns in my stash to work up the lemon section. I loved the colors so much, I decided I should use them to make matching sections for the lemon block.

Which brings us to the old favorite of mine. I have been waiting for the perfect time to introduce to you to the Loopy Love Stitch Pattern. (Loopy Love, get it??) It works best with a three color repeat, since you can just carry the yarn up the sides. Who doesn't love LESS ends to weave in? One of my very first baby blankets was made using this stitch, and I just love the way the stripes turn out. Not to mention, that it works up very fast.

Full disclosure: this stitch is not mine. I in no way came up with the stitch, or even the three color version. All credit for that goes to Tamara over at Moogly. Here is the link for the blanket pattern. In this pattern, she includes tips on carrying your yarn with the three color stripe and a video tutorial for the blanket. And if you really love this stitch pattern, she also has hat and booties patterns using it as well!

Note that I will not be copying the stitch pattern below, to respect the hard work of the original designer. The ends of rows can get a bit tricky, but once you get it sorted out the section should work up quickly!

Section Pattern

Supplies:

  1. Worsted weight yarn.
    • Pretty sure at least one of my yarns this time was Red Heart Super Saver.
    • You need a total of 25 grams, and I had one color (green) that had one less row than the other 2 colors.
  2. Crochet Hook. I use a 6mm but a 5mm or 5.5mm would work as well. Just check the width and length measurements as you go.
  3. Measuring Device! See the main post for details.
  4. Tapestry needle to weave in the ends
  5. Scissors

Pattern Notes:

Abbreviations:

  • SC: Single Crochet
  • DC: Double Crochet
  • Ch: Chain

Pattern:

  • Row 1: Chain 26. See Row 1 in the pattern link
    • Chain should be a multiple of 3 plus 2
    • This chain count gives 8 chain 3 loops. (8*3 + 2 = 26)
  • Row 2: See Row 2 in the pattern link
  • Row 3: See Row 3 in the pattern link
  • Row 4-(?): Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you reach 9 inches
    • For me, 23 rows got me to the desired length
  • Finish off and weave in the ends!

I hope you don't mind being sent to another blog for stitch details. My hope is that it gives you the opportunity to learn even more. Stay safe during this social distancing period of our lives. This is also a great time to catch up on any sections you may have missed, make a whole blanket, or maybe even make something for yourself because we all need a little self-care too. I was being good and finishing lots of works in progress, but I have ended up starting even more the last week or two.

I am hoping to get a new section out to you next week, but we will have to see what happens!

Spread Kindness Soap Sack Pattern

Making to give By this point, many of you know that I have a huge passion for making things to give to other people, whether those people are friends and family or to those in need. We are in Week #5 of the Section-A-Long I am hosting for Warm Up America (WUA). I decided to take a short break from section making when inspiration struck for a pattern idea for soap sacks. What are soap sacks you ask? They are basically wash cloths made in such a way that they become carriers for soap! They provide an all in one way to get clean and can be really fun. While they can be made and used by anyone, they have become a handmade item collected for those in need as well. The lovely people over at S.A.C.K (Supporting a Community with Kindness) have led an effort to get these soap sacks distributed all over the country. S.A.C.K recently partnered with WUA to collect even more and I must say the response from the WUA Makers group has been inspiring. So whether you are making to donate or to g

WUA Section-A-Long: Week #9

Using up what is left The original plan was to get 6 sections from each color I had picked out for my Sweet Tooth Hotel Sections, but because of small differences in the skeins, I had enough left of two colors to do another whole section. I had some left of the other two colors as well, and they will be coming back for a fun stripey pattern later this year! If you are reading this "live" remember that we have until March 18th to mail all sections for the Sweet Tooth campaign. We still have a LONG way to go to reach those lofty goals set at the beginning of the campaign so crochet away! Make sure you have checked out the original section-a-long post , if you haven't already for the list of supplies you will need, and if you missed any of them, the other patterns are all linked at the bottom of that post! Using minimal amounts of yarn I pay a lot of attention to how much yarn each section takes to make. Partially because I enjoy details like that, and partia

WUA Section-A-Long Kickoff (Section #1)

Getting Ready Y'all, I am so excited to get this section-a-long started! Today we will be starting with a very simple section to help get your feet wet with section making. This is not my go-to pattern/stitch when I am making sections, but it is a great starting place. Make sure you have checked out the original section-a-long post , if you haven't already for the list of supplies you will need. Hopefully you have picked out some fun yarn to get started with, or maybe you are using this as a scrap/stash busting project. Each section pattern will come with an approximate amount of yarn needed for that pattern so you will have a good idea if you have enough if you are planning on going to scrap route. Foundation Single Crochet Section #1 will use the single crochet stitch. However, we will not start the section with a starting chain. We will start the section using a foundation single crochet stitch. Don't worry, I will be sharing several good resources for you to lear
