WUA Section-A-Long: Section #4

And the winner is... I asked the wonderful people of the WUA Makers Group on Facebook which stitch I should do next, and the winner was the Herringbone Stitch ! Also this week, I only used the colors for the Sweet Tooth Hotel Campaign and I managed  to get one of each color made again. (I also have all fours colors done for next week already, and I feel so productive!) Look at how much the stack of sections as grown these last four weeks! Let's get to it! Make sure you have checked out the original section-a-long post , if you haven't already for the list of supplies you will need, and if you missed it, check out the first , second , and third patterns already on the blog. Herringbone Stitch If you can do a double crochet stitch, you can do the Herringbone stitch. This new stitch just takes one simple switch in how you pull through the loops when compared to the standard double crochet. It is a great stitch for when you get tired of double crochet, or want to

WUA Section-A-Long: Section #3

There is a new challenge! This week, Warm Up America announced a huge new challenge! They have put out a call for 10,000 sections that they need my mid-March! These sections will be a part of this year's installation at the Sweet Tooth Hotel . The piece is called Intangible and will be entirely made out of fiber. Even better, Warm Up America is going to get a portion of the ticket sales. As for the challenge, they are collecting red, yellow, green and teal sections to be a part of the installation. Personally, I am looking forward to knowing that my yarn creations are going to be a part of such an amazing event. For the next several weeks, my section patterns are going to be made out of red, green, yellow and teal. I am actually hoping to get every pattern done in each of the four colors. My Sweet Tooth section colors! Let's get to it! Make sure you have checked out the original section-a-long post , if you haven't already for the list of supplies you will need,

WUA Section-A-Long: Section #2

Grateful We are on week two! Before we get into the section for today, I need to take a moment and thank every single one of you that participated last week. I was completely blown away by the support and views. I really didn't expect that kind of response and I am so grateful. If half of the views resulted in a single section being made, we crocheted enough sections for at least 2 adult sized blankets! I have no way of knowing how many views did result in a section but it is still super encouraging to see those kinds of numbers. Now for the next one! Make sure you have checked out the original section-a-long post , if you haven't already for the list of supplies you will need, and if you missed it, check out the first section post from last week. I also added a post about my charity crochet goals for 2020. Head over to the post , and let me know what your goals are! Alpine Stitch This week we are going to use the Alpine Stitch. This is a fairly new stitch to me. I l

Charity Crochet: 2019 Review and 2020 Goals

Charity Crochet As many of you may know, or have found out based on the other blog posts, crocheting donation items is a very important part of what I do. I started crocheting for charity when I ran out of people I knew who needed/wanted things I could make. I had yarn and could not stand to not be doing something with my hands so I turned to making things for those in need. This endeavor has turned into so much more than just needing to stay busy. I feel like it is something I am supposed to be doing with my time and talent. I am warm. I have multiple blankets (ones I have made and ones that have been bought). I have plenty of hats and scarves of my own. Everyone isn't so lucky. There are people out there that are cold. There are people that can greatly benefit from the comfort that a handmade item can provide. I can help these people, and I feel like I have to do what I can towards that purpose. I wanted to take some time today to look back at what I did in 2019 and write d

WUA Section-A-Long

What is a Section-A-Long? As you may have read in a previous post, I very much enjoy crocheting for charity. It is a passion of mine and something I want to encourage others to do. To that end, I am hosting a Section-A-Long for Warm Up America! Starting in January 2020, every week or so I will be posting a new section pattern. In an ideal world I would get 49 of these done this year. (Forty-nine would be ideal because that is how many are needed for an adult sized blanket.) However, if I am being realistic, 36 section patterns is way more likely (and way more doable for this grad school life I am living). Thirty-six sections will make a child sized blanket. Of course, if you decide to make multiples of each pattern every week, you can get up to the 49 or even more! Some months WUA even does giveaways for those that send in at least one section that month. Prizes in the past have been yarn, crochet hooks, knitting needles, pattern books and more. In the coming year, Joann's gif

WUA Section-A-Long Kickoff (Section #1)

Getting Ready Y'all, I am so excited to get this section-a-long started! Today we will be starting with a very simple section to help get your feet wet with section making. This is not my go-to pattern/stitch when I am making sections, but it is a great starting place. Make sure you have checked out the original section-a-long post , if you haven't already for the list of supplies you will need. Hopefully you have picked out some fun yarn to get started with, or maybe you are using this as a scrap/stash busting project. Each section pattern will come with an approximate amount of yarn needed for that pattern so you will have a good idea if you have enough if you are planning on going to scrap route. Foundation Single Crochet Section #1 will use the single crochet stitch. However, we will not start the section with a starting chain. We will start the section using a foundation single crochet stitch. Don't worry, I will be sharing several good resources for you to lear
